Cachar Police Bust International Vehicle Smuggling Racket Linked To Myanmar, Two Detained

Cachar Police achieved a major breakthrough by busting an international vehicle smuggling racket with alleged links to Myanmar during a special operation in the Sonabarighat Bypass area under Rangirkhari Police Station.

Acting on reliable inputs, police conducted a raid at a garage and recovered five old auto-rickshaws that had been modified. Two people were detained in connection with the case. The garage had reportedly been under police surveillance for a considerable period, following allegations that old vehicles were being modified and provided with forged documents before being smuggled across borders.

The detained persons have been identified as Afzal Hossain Laskar, the owner of the garage and a resident of the Kachudaram police station area, and Shamsuddin Barbhuiya, a resident of the Sonabarighat area.

According to a preliminary investigation, the modified auto-rickshaws were allegedly meant to be smuggled to Myanmar via the Mizoram border. Police have intensified interrogation of the detainees and are continuing investigations to trace other members and uncover the full network of the smuggling racket.
