Cachar Police Bust Major Drug Haul; Traffickers Escape Before Raid

Cachar Police seized around 1.1 lakh yaba tablets from a truck parked by the roadside at Aryanpur in the Dholai–Lailapur connecting route along the Assam–Mizoram border. The suspected traffickers fled the spot before police arrived. The estimated black market value of the seized consignment is over Rs. 30 crore.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a search operation on a stationary truck at Aryanpur under Dholai area. During the search, officers found 11 large polythene packets concealed inside a hidden chamber of the vehicle. Each packet contained yaba tablets, taking the total seizure to approximately 1,10,000 tablets.

Police sources said the consignment had been brought from neighbouring Mizoram into Cachar and was intended for onward trafficking to other states through Assam. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way to identify and arrest those involved.

The seizure comes amid continuing concern over interstate drug trafficking routes passing through Cachar. Police have carried out multiple operations in recent years, seizing narcotics and arresting suspects. However, the flow of illicit drugs through the district has not been completely halted.

A concerned resident have urged law enforcement agencies to intensify vigilance along border routes to curb trafficking and reduce the spread of drug abuse. Investigation on the matter is ongoing and further report is awaited.
