Cachar Police confirms boyfriend Pinak Suklabaidya as murderer; SP ensures strong chargesheet

“Gruesome”- this is how the Police describe the murder of a female resident of Silchar whose dead body was recovered from an under-construction multi-storey apartment in Dholai. Following the recovery of the dead body, a large crowd gathered in protest demanding encounter of the culprit. The family members alleged that the woman was raped and murdered by attacking with acid.

Cachar SP Numal Mahatta himself investigated the case as per the direction of the DGP of Assam, GP Singh who has been closely monitoring the investigation. Cachar SP held a press briefing earlier today shedding light on the investigation conducted so far.

The SP confirmed boyfriend of the deceased, Pinak Suklabaidya, a resident of Lala, Hailakandi as the murderer. He was one of the accused in the case and following a thorough interrogation yesterday, the SP confirmed based on his confession.

As reported earlier by Barak Bulletin, Suklabaidya visited Silchar from Bangalore on Friday July 14. He called the deceased, who happened to be his girlfriend in a relationship ongoing for more than a year. On Saturday, they met in the town, and he took her on an auto rickshaw ride he had reserved. They stayed the night at the under-construction building, where the female resident’s dead body was recovered.

Cachar SP shared that Suklabaidya murdered her that night and stayed in the same building. The next morning, he went to the ISBT and took a bus to Guwahati. He then procured a ticket from Bangalore to Silchar dated July 17 to make a case that he has only traveled after he got to know about the heinous act. His conspiracy failed to live through the scrutiny of the Police investigation as he got caught and had to eventually confess.

“This is a gruesome murder. We condemn the act. The Police is now in the process of building a strong chargesheet that stands the scrutiny of law and ensures exemplary punishment,” asserted Cachar SP Numal Mahatta.

He revealed that Suklabaidya had a fight with his girlfriend over an alleged love triangle while he was in Bangalore. Suklabaidya was angry about his girlfriend’s friendship (which he considered as affair) with someone. “Suklabaidya met this girl on social media and they fell in love on Facebook. Following this they started meeting and eventually got into a relationship,” shared SP from his findings in the investigation.

When asked if this was a rape and murder with acid attack, Cachar SP said, “We are still in the process of finding out more details. Bengaluru Police has also started a parallel investigation to figure out the role of a few others who are connected to the case but currently residing there. Moreover, we have sent some pieces of evidence and samples collected from the deceased’s body to a forensic lab in Ahmedabad to find out the nature of the death.”

SP Numal Mahatta also refused to share the third person’s name despite declaring it as a love triangle. He said more details will be disclosed once the investigation attains further progress.
