Cachar Police Confiscates Heroin Worth 3 cr, Two Arrested In Op Led By Lakhipur SDPO

In the “War on Drugs” mission of Assam Police, a narcotic substance worth 3 crore was confiscated by Cachar Police and two drug peddlers were arrested. In a meticulous operation planned and led by the SDPO of Lakhipur, Partha Pratim Das, a Maruti 800 vehicle was apprehended, where the drug was found. The operation unfolded last evening in the Nagdirgram area of Sonai.

Based on credible intel, the Cachar Police team led by Lakhipur SDPO, the drug bust operation was held. A Maruti 800 vehicle was apprehended by the police team, where they found 44 soap cases filled with heroin in the guise of soap. In the operation held on May 2, 572 grams of heroin were seized and the market value is estimated to be more than 3 crore, as per the international standards.

The two accused, Anwar Hussain Mazumder and Hussain Ahmed Laskar, planned to cross the Sonai area without drawing attention or suspension. But the Police team oversmart them. The peddlers were intercepted while travelling in a Maruti 800 vehicle bearing registration number AS01AK0276, which aroused suspicion among law enforcement authorities. Upon tailing the vehicle and subsequently conducting a successful stop, officers discovered 44 soap cases concealing a staggering 572 grams of heroin, with an estimated street value exceeding 3 crores.

Sharing the details of the incident, Aditional SP of Cachar Police Subrata Sen said, “We had intel that this vehicle would cross through the Sonai area last evening and based on that the operation was launched. The Lakhipur SDPO was successful in their attempt to continue our efforts in the War on Drugs. Upon apprehending Anwar Hussain Mazumder and Hussain Ahmed Laskar, Anwar attempted to evade arrest and flee away, but the swift action of the police team resulted in his capture”.

Both the accused were apprehended for the possession and peddling of these drugs based on the provisions of the NDPS Act.
