Cachar Police Crack Down on Illegal Drug Trade in Three Major Operations

In a recent development, Cachar Police have successfully carried out three separate operations targeting illegal transportation and narcotic activities. These actions have led to the seizure of foreign-origin cigarettes and a large quantity of banned substances, reaffirming the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.

In one of the most significant operations, police acted on a reliable input and intercepted a truck near the Balacherra Toll Gate. The truck, bearing registration number RJ 07 GD 8613, was found carrying 2,920 boxes of foreign cigarettes. The consignment included 550 boxes of ESSE Light (White), 2,150 boxes of ESSE Light (Golden), and 220 boxes of Marlboro. In total, 5,84,000 cigarettes were recovered, with an estimated value of Rs. 1.5 crore in the black market.

One individual, identified as Hema Ram, son of Ghadsi Ram and a resident of Roopalisar in Rajasthan, was apprehended. The seizure was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and documented through proper videography. An investigation is currently underway.

In a separate anti-narcotic operation under the jurisdiction of Kachudaram Police Station, one person was arrested with a large quantity of ganja. The accused, Sanathoy Singha, son of Hemanta Singha and resident of Didarkush Pt-IV, was found in possession of 14.34 kilograms of suspected ganja. The contraband was seized in the presence of independent witnesses, and further legal procedures are ongoing.

Another major bust took place under the Borkhola Police Station during regular checking at the Balacherra Toll Gate along NH-27. A white Baleno car, registration number AS-02AR-1545, was intercepted. Four persons were found inside the vehicle: three men and one woman, all residents of Nagaon district. Upon inspection, police discovered ten soap cases containing a white-orangish powder suspected to be heroin, weighing approximately 108 grams.

A drug detection kit confirmed the presence of heroin. The street value of the seized substance is estimated to be around Rs. 70 lakh. The seizure was carried out with proper videography and in the presence of independent witnesses. All four accused have been taken into custody, and further investigations are in progress.

The war on drugs remains an ongoing mission led by Assam Police, with relentless efforts being made to curb the menace across the state. Addressing the media, Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta stated that Cachar Police is fully committed to this mission and continues to work tirelessly towards eradicating the social enemy of drug abuse.
