Cachar Police cut through truck’s secret chamber to seize more than 3500 kgs of suspected Burmese nuts

Major success for Cachar Police in confiscating areca nuts that were being illegally transported. These nuts are procured from Burma of Myanmar and are locally known as Burmese Supari. Miscreants running nexuses bypass the Central and State taxation system and smuggle the nuts to different parts of the country and world. Today’s success of the Cachar Police also proves the fact that if the Police want, they can stop the smuggling of nuts.

Two trailer trucks were stopped during the Naka Checking in front of the Lailapur Patrol Post at the Assam – Mizoram border. The trucks entered Cachar from Mizoram and the Police had the intel that those were carrying nuts illegally. The search operation began and the Police could not find anything. They checked all corners of the truck and yet they could not spot a single nut in either truck.

These trailers normally transport rakes and containers or pillars to construction sites. They have very few hidden chambers to conceal things. After a thorough search, when the Police could not find anything, they called in a welder and an ironworker. They started cutting through the surface of the truck and eventually, the Police attained a successful raid.

Cachar Police informed, “The container trucking Bearing reg. no. BR-28-GA- 3684 was found carrying 147 bags (Approx 2205 KG) of suspected to be Burmese supari in a secret chamber created to misguide the Police and smuggle items illegally.”

In connection with this particular truck, Mujibar Rahman (age 32  S/O: Haris Ali of vill: Brahman Grum) of Kalain has been apprehended. The suspected Burmese Supari has been seized too.

The Police informed that the other truck bearing reg. no. ML-10-C-8816 was transporting 1300 KG of suspected to be Burmese Supari. This truck too had secret chambers and the Police could only spot the items after the ironworker managed to cut through the surface.

Nurul Islam (age 24, S/O: Abdul Kayum of vill: Dokhin Tarapur – Jalalpur) of Katigorah has been arrested in connection with the second truck.
