Cachar Police Detains Sribhumi Content Creator For Hurting Religious Sentiments
Popular content creator and founder of the Facebook page Karimganj Today (now Sribhumi Today), Debojyoti alias Sujan Deb Roy of Sribhumi, was detained by Cachar Police in Silchar on Monday (June 16). He was apprehended following a complaint lodged by an Aghori sadhu.
The complaint, filed on Sunday (June 15) at Silchar Sadar Police Station, accuses Roy of insulting Sanatani saints through a video uploaded on Roy’s social media handles.
According to the FIR, a video posted from two Facebook pages—Debojyoti Sujan Deb Roy and Sribhumi Entertainment—showed Sujan dressed in disguise (chhadmabesh) as a sadhu. “Especially his dress and tilak showed his ill-mindedness and insult on the Sadhu parampara,” the complainant stated.
It further reads, “No one has the right to dress up like a sadhu at any time and propagate anything on social media. This planned attack on the sadhus will not be tolerated, as it has hurt us deeply.”
Sources said Sujan was in Silchar on Monday for a promotional shoot when a Cachar Police team, acting on a tip-off, detained him. At the time of filing this report, he is being interrogated at the Sadar Police Station, with the possibility of arrest being considered.
Police officials have not yet issued an official statement regarding the charges or whether a formal case has been registered under specific sections of the law.
