Cachar police disposes unidentified dead body recovered from Sonai; Rape or not yet to be confirmed

On March 25, in Dhonipur Sonai locals were shocked to see a naked dead body of a woman lying on the paddy field. The woman couldn’t be identified by the people residing in the neighborhood and eventually the police recovered the dead body and sent it for post mortem.

Since then the body was kept in the morgue and the police officials continued their search for a family member of the deceased. After 72 hours had passed, the Sonai Police Station approached the magistrate seeking permission to dispose the unidentified dead body following the standard operating procedure.

Considering no relative came forward to claim the dead body, the magistrate decided to grant permission for disposal by police. Accordingly, the Sonai Police disposed the dead body following all procedures earlier today. It is worth mentioning here that the dead body looked like that of a tribal resident. Prima facie suspicion was that the woman was raped and murdered. The officer in-charge of Sonai Police Station informed that the police is yet to receive the medical report without which it won’t be possible to confirm if it was indeed a brutal rape and murder.
