
Cachar Police Seize Heroin Worth Over Rs. 1.5 Crore in Lakhipur, One Arrested
Cachar Police on Sunday (September 7) seized a consignment of heroin valued at over Rs. 1.6 crore in the black market during an anti-drug operation at Tolengram under Lakhipur Police Station. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
The arrested individual has been identified as Imran Uddin Choudhury (32), son of Nur Islam Choudhury, resident of Baoli Chandmari under Lakhipur Police Station.
During the operation, police recovered 25 soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 300 grams, which were seized in the presence of independent witnesses. Officers also seized an Alto K10 vehicle without a number plate, allegedly used to transport the narcotics. Drug detection kit tests confirmed the seized substance to be heroin.
Speaking to reporters, Additional SP (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal said, “On September 7, Lakhipur Thana Police intercepted an Alto car and recovered 25 soap cases of suspected heroin. The drug detection test kit showed a positive result, and the accused was arrested under the NDPS Act. The seized substance weighs 300 grams and is valued at over Rs. 1.5 crore in the black market. The car has also been seized, and an investigation is underway to trace its origin and destination.”
Police sources revealed that the narcotics were allegedly smuggled from Saiphai in Mizoram. Further investigation is ongoing.
