
Cachar Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs. 3 Crore, Arrest One in Joint Operation with Assam Rifles
Cachar Police, in a joint operation with the Assam Rifles, intercepted a Scorpio vehicle and seized suspected heroin worth around Rs. 3 crore from Ujjan Tarapur under Lakhipur Police Station on Thursday evening (October 16).
According to police sources, based on reliable intelligence, the team conducted the operation and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number MZ-01J-0444. During the search, the police discovered 30 soap boxes containing suspected heroin concealed in specially designed secret chambers within the vehicle.
The accused, identified as Dilwar Hussain alias Lalruate Sanga, son of Karimuddin, a resident of Ward No. 38, Patharkandi, Sribhumi, has been arrested. Police also recovered an iPhone from his possession.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the contraband was being transported illegally from Champhai in Mizoram and that Cachar was being used as a transit point for smuggling the narcotic substances to other states. The seized heroin, weighing approximately 401 grams, tested positive during the on-site drug detection test.
Speaking to the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Cachar, Numal Mahatta, shared more details about the operation and said, “This is a part of our ongoing operation against drugs and narcotics. Yesterday, we conducted an operation in Uzan Tarapur under the Lakhipur Police Station and apprehended a vehicle carrying 30 soap cases filled with suspected heroin. The vehicle was heading from a neighbouring district, and we arrested one person, Dilwar Hussain of Patharkandi. In the presence of independent witnesses and based on the Drug Testing Kit results, we seized the consignment. Our district was being used as a transit route, and the seized drugs are worth over Rs. 3 crore in the black market. Further investigation is underway, and our initiative to curb the drug menace will continue.”
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is in progress.
