
Cachar Police Seize IMFL in Irongmara, Burmese Cigarettes at Digorkhal; Two Held
Cachar Police conducted two successful operations on Friday (November 28), resulting in significant seizures of illicit goods and the apprehension of two individuals. While in one operation, police seized smuggled Burmese cigarettes, the other operation led to destruction of significant amount of illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor.
In the first operation, acting on a tip-off, police raided Irongmara Bazar under Dwarbond Police Station and recovered 170.825 litres of IMFL from the possession of Kalicharan Das (50), son of late Banabasi Das, a resident of Irongmara, Harinagar. Police stated he was caught red-handed while dealing with the illegal liquor.
In a separate operation, a vehicle bearing registration number NL 01 AE 3854 was intercepted at Digorkhal check post on the Assam–Meghalaya border. Upon thorough search, the team recovered 120 cartons of Burmese cigarettes, totalling 28,800 pieces, valued at approximately Rs. 3.5 lakh. The vehicle’s handler, identified as Ajay Moni Jamatia from Tripura, was apprehended on the spot.
Officials said further investigation into both cases is underway.
