Cachar Police seize massive haul of heroin and foreign cigarettes in dual anti-narcotics operations
In a significant crackdown on narcotics and illegal cigarette smuggling, Cachar Police executed two successful operations in the district on Friday, leading to substantial seizures and arrests.
In the first operation, Police raided the residence of a woman identified as Mina Kumari Sharma, located at Labok under Lakhipur constituency. The raid resulted in the discovery of a shocking cache of heroin concealed within 58 soap boxes. Mina Kumari Sharma was promptly apprehended, and based on her information, subsequent police actions led to the recovery of an additional 1 kg 600 grams of heroin, concealed in 100 soap boxes. The market value of the seized heroin is estimated to exceed 7 crore rupees. Cachar Additional Superintendent of Police Subrata Sen confirmed the ongoing investigation into the case.
In another separate operation, Borkhola Police under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Nayan Kumar, intercepted a container truck with registration number UP 21 CN 9847 on the Silchar-Haflong National Highway. Inside the vehicle, Police officials recovered 45 cartons of foreign cigarettes, belonging to Chinese and South Korean brands WIN and ESSE. These cigarettes, believed to be worth lakhs of rupees, were illicitly smuggled from Myanmar and Mizoram and intended for distribution to other states by using Cachar and Dima Hasao as a corridor. The police arrested both the driver, identified as Alam, and the assistant of the truck, named Danish on charges of illegal cigarette smuggling. Both of them are residents of Uttar Pradesh.
These operations underscore the determined efforts of Cachar Police in curbing the illegal narcotics trade and smuggling activities in the region. The law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
