Cachar Police Seizes 11,100 Bottles of Illegal Cough Syrup Worth ₹2 Crore
In a major breakthrough in the ongoing war on drugs, Cachar Police recovered a massive consignment of illegal cough syrup, valued at around Rs 2 crore in the black market. The special operation took place on 3 January near Dhamcherra under the jurisdiction of Borkhola Police Station, as part of their relentless efforts to curb the transportation of narcotics in Assam.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police team conducted a thorough search operation around 2 pm. During their search near a highway culvert, they uncovered 74 boxes of codeine-based cough syrup. Each box contained 150 bottles, adding up to a staggering total of 11,100 bottles of the banned substance. The investigation is ongoing to trace those responsible for the smuggling attempt.
The seized cough syrup is a commonly misused narcotic, often smuggled and sold illegally for recreational purposes. The consumption of such substances has been a growing concern for law enforcement agencies due to its devastating impact on the youth.
This successful seizure is yet another significant victory for Assam Police, who have been working tirelessly as part of the state’s anti-drug campaign. The crackdown on narcotics continues to be a priority for the police, who remain committed to eradicating the drug menace from society.
Cachar Police have intensified their operations against drug-related crimes, carrying out multiple raids and seizures in recent times. These efforts are part of Assam’s larger initiative to make the state drug-free.
