Cachar Police Seizes Narcotics Worth Rs 8 Crore, Arrests inter-state drug dealer

In a significant crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking, Cachar Police conducted a special operation in the early hours of today, January 30, 2024, at Loknathpur, Bhaga, Dholai. The operation resulted in the apprehension of two suspects and the recovery of a substantial quantity of narcotics.

According to Cachar SP Numal Mahatta, the police seized fifty soapboxes suspected to contain heroin, with an estimated weight of approximately 1.531 kilograms. In addition, 460 grams of methamphetamine were also confiscated during the operation.

In a statement provided by SP Numal Mahatta, he said, “After thorough interrogation, the prime accused and illegal inter-state drug dealer, namely Md. Babul Uddin Laskar, 32 years old, son of Ahmadul Haque Laskar of Loknathpur, Bhaga, Dholai, has been arrested and is being forwarded to the Hon’ble Court.”

The seized narcotics are believed to have a market value of around Rs 8 crore, as confirmed by police sources. The consignment was being illegally transported from the Aizawl district of Mizoram. The police have initiated a further investigation to uncover the full extent of the drug trafficking network.

“This successful operation underscores the commitment of Cachar Police in curbing the menace of narcotics trafficking in the region,” said Cachar SP. The arrest of Md. Babul Uddin Laskar, a key player in the illegal drug trade, is expected to yield valuable information that may lead to dismantling larger criminal networks involved in narcotics smuggling.
