The seized heroin weighed around 282 grams and two miscreants related to this drug racket have been arrested so far. This was confirmed by Tarapur Police Outpost in charge Ananda Mehdi.

Regarding the raid and seizure of the suspected Heroin drug, Ananda Mehdi said, “We got a tip-off from one of our reliable sources, so went there and raided that place. During the raid, we found suspected Heroin drug weighing around 282 grams there. So far, two have been arrested related to this illicit drug racket.” When asked about the potential market worth of that amount of seized drugs, he said that they’re not aware of its market value.

Heroin is a highly addictive opioid drug made from morphine, a natural substance often used illicitly as a narcotic, taken from the seed pod of the various opium poppy plants grown in Southeast and Southwest Asia, Mexico and Colombia. Heroin can be a white or brown powder, or a black sticky substance known as black tar heroin. It can be consumed by injecting sniffing, snorting, or even smoking, which induces euphoria and growing tolerance.

Heroin is one of the most common reasons behind cases of drug overdose and its production and sale are strictly regulated under different laws in different countries and continents. Its market value differs from place to place and also according to supply and demand. Last September, the Assam Police had arrested and seized over 5 kg heroin worth Rs 25 crores in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam.
