In a significant development, the Cachar Police arrested one Alimuddin Mazumder and seized a massive quantity of suspected heroin from his possession. According to the Superintendent of Cachar Police, Numal Mahatta, the police team had received a tip-off about the presence of contraband substances in Sonai area.
Acting on the information, the police launched a special operation and arrested Alimuddin Mazumder, who hails from Kanakpur Pt 1, PS-Silchar.

Heroin is a potent narcotic drug, derived from morphine, a naturally occurring substance found in the opium poppy plant. It is banned in India under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, due to its highly addictive nature and harmful impact on health. Heroin addiction is a severe social and public health issue, causing serious physical and mental health problems and leading to an increase in crime rates and social instability.
The Cachar Police’s ongoing raids against abusive substances in Assam reflect the state’s commitment to combating the illegal drug trade and protecting the public from the harmful impact of narcotic substances. The authorities are taking strict measures to identify and arrest individuals involved in the drug trade and seizing contraband substances.
The Superintendent of Cachar Police has time and again urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any information related to drug trafficking to the authorities. Current DGP, GP Singh has repeatedly said that the police department is committed to cracking down on drug trafficking and ensuring public safety and well-being. The recent seizure of heroin and the arrest of the suspect are significant steps towards achieving these goals.
