
Cachar Police’s “All Out” campaign against syndicates reaches its peak; Former MLA’s sister detained after raid
Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur accompanied by her team of professionals raided the residence of Rauf Ahmed and Raquib Ahmed in Silchar’s Sonai Road area.
According to Police sources, both of them have been identified as the top level handlers in the fertilisers scam.
On February 1, 2022, Cachar Police busted an illegal warehouse in Damcherra area that was stocked with at least 1500 sacks of subsidised urea. Three trucks were detained and the drivers were arrested. A total of 3,700 sacks of subsidised urea was seized from the spot. Following the leads, Cachar Police tracked down to the residence of Rauf Ahmed and Raquib Ahmed. The Ahmed brothers were not present at the residence in Kanakpur Part II when the officials barged into the premises.
However, Police sources confirmed that Rauf and Raquib Ahmed’s mother Jahanara Begum Chowdhury has been detained for investigation. One of Rauf Ahmed’s brother in law has also been detained to stay as guardian of Jahanara Begum Chowdhury.
Barak Bulletin is in a position to confirm that Jahanara Begum Chowdhury is one of the four sisters of former deputy speaker and Sonai MLA, Aminul Haque Laskar.
Police sources confirmed that Jahanara Begum is now being interrogated at Borkhola Police Station. Holding a a press conference, Cachar SP Dr. Ramandeep Kaur had announced that the Police will go all out in its drive against the nexuses operating Burmese Supari and subsidised fertiliser syndicates in Silchar. The Police has so far attained major successes in the crackdown and arrested several top criminals involved in the nexus.
