Cachar resident found dead in Aizawl jail; “Mizoram informed he has hanged himself,” Cachar Police

Today morning, Dholai Police received official telecommunication confirming the death of Assam’s Nipen Singh. Just eight days after the locals of Dholai area protested with the dead body of Pravin Kumar Singh, news of another death breaks from Mizoram. For the freshers, Pravin Kumar Singh is a driver by profession and drove to Mizoram with his oil tanker. Mizoram Police handed over the dead body of Pravin Kumar Singh to Assam Police and claimed that he was murdered by his handyman Nipen Singh. The Mizoram Police confirmed that Nipen Singh has been arrested and is now in the custody.

Nipen Singh is a relative of Pravin Kumar Singh and the locals alleged that the case is framed. On February 1, they protested for hours with the dead body of Pravin Kumar Singh blocking the National Highway to Mizoram. Cachar Police went to the spot and assured that the matter will be investigated further and Nipen Singh’s security will be assured.

Today morning, Dholai OC got a call from Aizawl jail. “I was informed that last night, Nipen Singh, who was in the jail as an inmate killed himself by hanging from the ceiling. They informed that they will hand over the dead body after conducting the postmortem,” informed the OC.

The locals had expressed the exact same concern to the SP that innocent Nipen Singh is being framed and eventually, he will be murdered. As it turns out, the Assam Police ignored the case and the man is no more.

This is not the first time an Assam resident died in the custody of the Mizoram Police. 23-year-old Fayaz Rehman who was also a driver by profession was declared dead in the judicial custody in Mizoram. He was a resident of Assam’s Hawaithan area in the Dholai Legislative Assembly constituency and was arrested for allegedly “impersonating in the compulsory covid testing gate.” Later he was declared dead due to suicide inside the custody.

Meanwhile, the death of Nipen Singh has irked the locals and they are planning a huge protest. Sensing the outburst, Cachar Police has deployed a huge contingent of security personnel to ensure there is no law an order situation.
