Celebrate Durga Puja with devotion, not intoxication; says Excise Minister Suklabaidya, warns drunken perpetrators to be jailed

“Celebrate puja with devotion, not with intoxication”, was the clear message from the Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya today. Speaking about the alcohol abuse during Durga Puja, the excise minister has warned any drunken inconvenience caused during the days of Durga Puja might invite penalties. Anyone who will be found in a drunken state might end up in jail.

This step was taken by the administration to curb the mixing of alcohol during Durga Puja days. In this regard, Parimal Suklabaidya said, “No one should indulge in drinking during the days of Puja, even if anyone does they should do it in the confinement of their home. No one should cause any violence or get into any fights”.

The Excise and Transport Minister of Assam also said, “If anyone is found causing any disturbance to the public life or getting into fights or violence, we will take stringent actions as per law. We already have the punishments for ‘Drink and Drive’ cases, now if we find anyone drunk or drinking on streets, we will apprehend them and send them to jail”.

This step, the Minister said, is not an illegal statement. He rather said, “We have laws in place. No one should go to any public place in a drunken state. We will take action against the perpetrators”. The minister has further urged people to celebrate the Durga Puja days with devotion and not indulge in any intoxication.
