Central Government declares closed holiday on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birthday

The Central Government has declared a closed holiday on April 14, 2023, on account of the birthday of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The holiday will be applicable to all Central Government Offices, including Industrial Establishments, throughout India.

The decision was made by invoking the powers under Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (26 of 1881). The office memorandum signed by the Deputy Secretary to the Government of India, Sitansu Mohan Routray, states that All Ministries/Departments of Government of India have been directed to bring the decision to the notice of all concerned.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who was born on April 14, 1891, was a social reformer, economist, and jurist who played a significant role in the drafting of the Indian Constitution. He was also a strong advocate of social justice and fought for the rights of the marginalised sections of society.
