Chaos in Lailapur; Multiple Mizoram bound trucks vandalised with Ashok Singhal, Parimal on the spot
As per Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam government’s instruction guardian minister of Cachar district Ashok Singhal and forest minister as well as the local MLA Parimal Suklabaidya has reached Lailapur police outpost. Their visit is to bring the general public in confidence to withdraw the economic blockade going on since July 26, 2021 after Mizoram forces slaughtered six Assam police personnel within the territory of Cachar at Assam Mizoram border.
While the discussion is going on between the two ministers, representatives from the general public, deputy commissioner of Cachar and superintendent of police, due to some unknown reasons, before reaching a consensus trucks bound to Mizoram started heading towards the border.
The general public started pelting stones at those trucks leaving multiple vandalised. Officer in charge of Dholai Police Station Shahab Uddin reached the spot to calm down public but for no avail. Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur also rushed to calm down the mob without using force. Her presence made a difference and the public stopped pelting stones. The trucks vandalised and bamboozled had to make an “U” turn and return towards Silchar.
It remains unknown why the vehicles were asked to head towards Mizoram before a consensus was reached in the meeting between the ministers and representatives of local organisations and civilians. When asked, multiple truck drivers said that the Assam police officials asked them to start heading towards the border as the minister would officially flag off the trucks marking the conclusion of the economic blockade. It seems the ceremonial plan was a little rushed as it backfired.
