Child-marriage stopped by Cachar Police in Katigorah, father of the under-aged bride and groom arrested
The Cachar Police successfully stopped a case of child marriage in the Katigorah area of Cachar. This incident happened last Wednesday in the Tintikori village of Katigorah where a minor’s parents tried to marry her off to another boy. During the wedding, the Katigorah Police based on the information went to their house and stopped the illegal wedding from taking place. The police also arrested the father of the girl and the boy on the spot.
The 13-year-old minor girl of Katigorah was being married off to another 18-year-old boy from Silchar’s Masughat with proper arrangements made by the parents of both sides. The “groom’s side” went to Katigroah, to the girl’s house for the marriage. According to the information, the girl’s father, Sajrul Islam and the boy’s father Hakim Alik had planned the marriage together of the under-aged bride and groom.
Upon the intervention of the police from Katigorah Police Station, the wedding was first stopped and the father of both the bride and groom were arrested by the police. The Police had also apprehended the under-aged bride and groom but after medical examination, they were released.
