“China welcome India Go Back” slogans in Silchar; No arrests yet
Sunday afternoon under broad daylight right at the centre of Silchar town in Barak Valley, “China welcome India Go back” slogans were raised. A video has surfaced on social media and was also broadcast on local television channels, which features a young man saying “India Na Laage” (We don’t need India) and “China welcome India go back”. While the vocal protester was not wearing any banner or bandana, the man standing right next to him had MYFA written on his forehead. The man on his right had a Gamusa wrapped on his neck.
“We are investigating the matter and will take action against the ones making such remarks. In the protest rally, we had our videographers and officers, we cannot locate any such remarks during the rally. Now, if a few individuals moved out of the pack and interacted one-on-one with a channel or publication we would not know that. So, we are trying to figure out who gave such statements and where,” says SP Cachar, MugdhaJyoti Deb Mahanta.
Dilip Paul, MLA, Silchar and former deputy commissioner feels such incidents in Barak Valley is motivated by the “Tukde Tukde” gang of Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, “We have heard Bharat ke Tukde Tukde kardenge Inshallah before and now we are hearing Welcome China. By no means, we should tolerate these anti-national activities. Having said so it is important to find out, who is behind these organisations. These kids don’t even know what they are talking about and just getting dragged by a trap. The Government is aware of the situation and will certainly take actions against those who are motivating these anti-national activities and derailing the development,” says he.
Rajdeep Goala of Congress also shares his view on the situation. He condemns the act and says, “Anything which is anti-national can never be accepted and that is my stand. India is a democratic country and everyone has the right to conduct peaceful protest but that does not mean one can pass anti-national remarks. I don’t know if the slogans are raised by the organisation as a whole or a few individuals in the organisation and that is a matter of investigation.”
On the other hand, MYFA released an official statement separating itself from the anti-national slogans. The organisation stated that the individual seen on the video is not an office bearer of MYFA and the media reports dragging the organisation into it is incorrect.
Manipuri youth front of Assam (MYFA), Koch Rajbongshi students organisation, Bishnupriya Manipuri students organisation, Assam Khilonjiya Jana Suraksha committee among various other organisations attended the rally. Assam Khilonjiya Jana Suraksha committee secretary as well as Manipuri youth front of Assam president S Herajit Singha, President of MYFA Laxmikant Sinha, Sushanta Rajbongshi of all Assam Koch Rajbongshi students Association, Rajiv Sinha of Vishnupriya Manipuri students organisation addressed a gathering at the end of the procession which started from Chenkcoorie road and marched through Ramnagar – Rongpur and dismantled in Madura bridge.
