Circle Officer seals medical store in Sonai, prescription of fake doctor seized

A medical store has been sealed by the Cachar District Administration for its operation without proper documents and permission. On Friday evening this medical store in Sonai town was sealed by Sonai Circle Officer Dr Dipankar Nath and Drug Inspector Banarai Rongmei. The team has also seized illicit prescriptions from the store. The owner of the store, Roushan Ali has been allegedly running this medicine business for a long time.

The medical store which has been sealed by the district administration is located in Rangirghat on Motinagar Road of Sonai. The store was being operated from a building which also didn’t have any permission for constriction from the Sonai Municipal Board. Not just the business was illegal, but so was the building which housed the store. The Sonai Circle Officer Dipankar Nath who was present while the store was being sealed said, “Two months back we sent a notice regarding building permission addressed to Dr Roushan Ali. He claims to be a registered medical practitioner. The notice was sent against the illegal construction of this building and since permission from the Municipality was not taken for the construction of the building. When we didn’t get any reply for the issued show-cause notice, we have come here to take stock of the matter. When we came here we found this pharmacy where there is a huge stock of medicines”.

“Upon seeing this pharmacy, I informed the Drug Controller who sent a Drug Inspector here. I along with the Drug Inspector and OC (of Sonai Police Station) have sealed the pharmacy and since the construction was illegal, we have seized the whole building. Until the owner is unable to present the requisite documents for the pharmacy, the pharmacy will remain sealed”, the Circle Officer further added. The officer also informed that they have seized a sales register where the sale of the drugs was recorded. Along with that, a prescription book was also seized where the owner of the pharmacy mentioned his name as Dr Roushan Ali but when asked by the team to produce proper documents or his doctor’s license, he was unable to.

During the sealing procedure, Sonai Municipal Board’s Vice Chairman, Saharul Alam, the Ward Commissioner of that ward and Sonai Police Station OC Manas Handique was also present. The Drug Inspector and the Circle Officer have asked the owner to produce any proper document regarding him being a doctor or his medical practitioner license to their office.
