Class 10 Girl Dies By Suicide After Failing HSLC Exam In Borkhola

A tragic incident occurred in Borkhola, Cachar, on Saturday (April 12), where a Class 10 student allegedly died by suicide after failing to pass the HSLC examination. The deceased has been identified as Ruksana Khanam Barbhuiya, a resident of Borakhola Part II.

According to her father, Jahrul Akbar Barbhuiya, Ruksana had appeared for this year’s HSLC examination, the results of which were declared on Friday. Upon learning that she had not cleared the exam, she was reportedly devastated. “It was around 4:50 or 5 early in the morning on Saturday when I heard a noise, and then my younger daughter told me that she was no more,” the grieving father said.

He added that Rusna had been staying at her maternal uncle’s house for a week before the results were announced. “On the day of the result, I called her and asked when she would return home. She told me she would come by the evening,” he recalled.

The father also mentioned that Rusna had allegedly posted a WhatsApp status before taking the drastic step, suggesting emotional distress.

Following the discovery of her lifeless body at home, the family immediately informed the Borkhola Police Station. Sub-Inspectors Nilkamal Baruah, Moniram Tita, and ASI Gautam Nath arrived at the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem examination on Saturday.
