CM Announces Rs. 50 Lakh Aid For Family Of Martyr Rajib Nunia
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a financial assistance of Rs. 50 lakh for the family of Rajib Nunia, a BSF jawan from Doyapur in Cachar, who was martyred at the India-Pakistan border in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu on August 27.
On behalf of the Chief Minister, Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha, accompanied by Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, party executive member Nilabha (Mridul) Mazumder and others, visited the martyr’s residence on Monday (September 1) and conveyed the announcement.
The Chief Minister was scheduled to personally visit the bereaved family at Doyapur, Udharbond, on the second day of his Barak Valley tour. However, due to time constraints before his return flight from Silchar after attending a programme in Patharkandi, he could not make it.
Speaking at the residence, Purkayastha said, “Chief Minister was supposed to visit their residence, but as his flight time was nearing after attending the Patharkandi event, he couldn’t leave from the airport. But he has talked with the martyr’s mother and expressed his condolences. He has also told us that next time when he comes here, he will definitely visit the residence of Martyr Rajib Nunia.”
It may be recalled that on August 27, Rajib Nunia lost his life while on duty at the Akhnoor border sector. A sudden explosion forced him to jump from a watchtower into the water, following which the collapsing structure fell on him, killing him instantly. His body was recovered the next day by fellow soldiers. The Border Security Force (BSF) later declared him a martyr.
