CM directs DCs to visit hospitals and “ensure efficient odd-hour management”; asks to entrust ADC with the responsibility of vaccination centres
The chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has held a meeting with the deputy commissioners and superintendent of police of each district. In the meeting, the minister discussed various initiatives to combat the COVID situation that is turning from bad to worse.
After the meeting, the Minister informed through a tweet, “Today I reviewed the Covid19 status, preparedness and enforcement with DCs and SPs through video conference.” He added, “I directed DCs to regularly visit District Hospitals from today and ensure efficient odd hour management of critical Covid patients even late in the night.”
It is worth mentioning here that he himself visited Guwahati Medical College and Hospital post-midnight. He tweeted, “Managing critical patients at odd hours is always a challenge. At 2.30 am, I visited GMCH to see how #Covid patients are being given treatment in Emergency Ward at night. I was satisfied with the arrangements. I reiterate my gratitude to doctors & nursing staff for their help.”
Speaking with Barak Bulletin after the meeting, deputy commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli said, “CM sir has instructed on being firm with a helping heart. This is with regards to the following of Curfew timings and other such. Death rates to be controlled by early detection and treatment. We will follow all these and ensure the same.”
Recently, a lot of allegations were raised against the vaccination drive going on in various districts. In the Cachar district, vaccination was carried out in unauthorised manner from a secret room at the premises of Silchar Civil Hospital. The matter was first reported by Barak Bulletin and video footage features the Head Clerk, responsible for the stock of vaccines at the officer of Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer (ACM&HO) admitting that he and other officials call people of “their choice” and get them the doses.
In a meeting in presence of Minister Parimal Suklabaidya who has been trusted with the responsibility of looking after COVID preparedness in three districts of Barak Valley, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty stressed the importance of probing the “black marketing” of vaccines. Today, the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma also discussed the issue of vaccination.
“I asked to entrust one ADC in each district with the responsibility of vaccine centers,” stated the chief minister in his tweet.
He added, “Directed SPs to enforce stringent restrictions to contain the pandemic while ensuring containment zone regulations. In this time of distress, we must give the best service with a humane heart”
