CM Himanta Biswa Sarma reaches Silchar to take stock of flood situation across valley
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma reached Silchar and held a brief meeting with the DC and SP of Cachar at the Kumbhirgram Airport.
After the meeting, he boarded a chopper along with the DC and SP along with other officials for reviewing the flood situation across the valley.
“To understand the flood situation of Silchar and adjacent areas of Cachar district, conducted a sky survey today. Along with that, visited many flood affected areas in Silchar and discussed with the public. After understanding the situation, we held a review meeting with the district administration and directed towards speeding up all facilities to the flood victims. During the tour, Honorable MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, Honorable Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district, Superintendent of Police, South Assam Zone was accompanied by the Deputy Superintendent,” Sarma posted on social media.
As per reports, river water is rising again in Barak as recorded in Annapurna Ghat. In a video message to the residents, DC Keerthi Jalli had informed that areas like NH Road, Public School Road, Das Colony, Rangirkhari are still witnessing strong flow of water coming in and people there are in deep distress.
Jalli urged the residents to keep patience and support the administration in its efforts to fight out the calamity.
Silchar has been submerged for more than 48 hours now and families continue to be stranded in their waterlogged homes, and the town is facing a massive shortage of food and drinking water. Electricity has also been cut off in several parts of the town.
As per an ASDMA bulletin, 5.45 lakh people are currently affected in 32 districts of the state, and 2.7 lakh are in relief camps. Twelve people died on Wednesday, taking the total death toll from floods this year to 100.
