CM Sonowal to visit Barak Valley tomorrow; will do aerial survey of landslide areas in all three districts
A couple of days after landslides in all three districts of Barak Valley claimed 21 lives, chief minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal will himself survey the situation.
As per available information, Sonowal will take off from Kumbirgram airport at around 11:15 AM for Karimganj tomorrow. First, he will do an aerial survey of the district and after landing on a makeshift helipad, he will meet senior officials in the administration to take stock of preparedness.
After his Karimganj tour, the CM is scheduled to visit Hailakandi at around 2:00 PM. Eight people from Hailakandi lost their lives yesterday due to the landslides. Sonowal will meet the newly transferred deputy commissioner of Hailakandi, Megha Nidhi Dahal, and take an update on the flood condition. He will also do an aerial survey of Hailakandi.
His chopper will last stop at Silchar before deboarding from Kumbigram, from where he will depart for Air Force station Borjahar by Indian Air Force’s fixed-wing aircraft. While in Silchar he is scheduled to meet Keerthi Jalli and discuss the flood and landslip issues in Cachar district, where seven members of a family died yesterday due to the landslide.
Sources informed that the chief minister planned his Barak Valley trip after getting the news of several deaths due to landslides. From Borjhar Air station, the CM will reach Guwahati via road.
