CM’s Intervention Leads to Happy Ending for Land Dispute Victims
On March 01, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Silchar as part of his “Vikash Yatra.” During his visit, he inaugurated a new Cancel Hospital at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, participated in the Bhumipujan of Karimganj Medical College, and initiated various people-centric projects. However, amidst these activities, one woman, later identified as Mausumi Dey, sought to reach CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to share her grievances regarding her land being occupied by someone else.
Upon encountering Mausumi Dey, who was visibly distressed and in tears, CM Sarma urged her to calm down and articulate her concerns. She explained that her land, originally purchased by her mother and later sold to her husband, was now occupied by others, depriving her of her rightful property.
Moved by her plight, CM Sarma promptly instructed SP Numal Mahatta to investigate the matter and requested Mausumi Dey to also convey her issues to the SP. She was scheduled to meet SP Cachar on the following day. True to his word, on March 04, Mausumi Dey’s grievances were heard, and the police visited the disputed land site, returning it to her possession.
Addressing the media, Mausumi Dey revealed that her property, located in Kanakpur, had been acquired by her mother in 2008 and subsequently sold to her husband in 2022. However, around two months ago, individuals unlawfully occupied the land, prompting her desperate plea for assistance.
On March 03, SP Numal Mahatta conducted investigations and discovered that the land rightfully belonged to Mausumi Dey, refuting the claims of the occupiers. These individuals had mistakenly bought a different plot of land, as per Mausumi Dey’s statement they bought their land from Nasadul Islam and Bibhu Paul, who failed to deliver the property. Consequently, the occupiers’ then encroached on Mausumi Dey’s land out of frustration.
SP Numal Mahatta ordered the occupiers to vacate the premises by 10 am on March 04, and they complied, allowing Mausumi Dey to reclaim her rightful ownership. Grateful for the government’s intervention, she expressed her appreciation to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Cachar Police for their swift action.
Furthermore, this incident shed light on another case involving Usha Roy, whose land was also occupied under similar circumstances. Like Mausumi Dey, Usha Roy’s property had been sold by the same dealers, Nasadul Islam and Bibhu Paul, leading to her distress. However, with the authorities’ intervention, Usha Roy also regained possession of her land, expressing her gratitude towards CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
SP Numal Mahatta while speaking to Barak Bulletin stated he had done his duty, and fulfilled CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wish. He informed that more than that he doesn’t wish to say anything else. The timely intervention of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma not only ensured justice for Mausumi Dey and Usha Roy but also underscores the importance of government responsiveness in addressing citizen grievances.
