Confiscated substances including Heroin, Yaba, Ganja worth Rs 1920.02 crore burnt in Silchar, Rs 70 crore worth packages set ablaze in Karimganj

Cachar Police carried out a huge drive to destruct the confiscated consignments of narcotics and illicit substances. Today, in Silchar’s Srikona area, the consignments were pilled up and Cachar SP, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur in presence of DIG Southern Range Kanakjyoti Deka went on to set them on fire.

The DIG Southern Range informed that substances worth Rs 1,920.02 crore were set ablaze today in Silchar. He informed that in today’s drive the officials burnt 6.14 KG Heroin worth Rs 31.07 crores, 683 KG Ganja worth Rs 1751.89 crore, Yaba Tablet worth Rs 120.8 crore international value. Cough Syrup among many other banned or illicit substances were destroyed.

“As per the order of the Court, we have carried out the drive,” said DIG Saikia. He added, “I would like to congratulate the SP of Cachar and the entire team.”

The DIG referred to the Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s drive against drugs and lauded the approach that followed since May 2021 after the election of the new CM.

Cachar shares its borders with Manipur and Mizoram. A lion’s hare of the confiscation happens in these borders. Many international cartels use Cachar as a gateway to smuggle banned items illegally. Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur has played a proactive role in uprooting the nexus but it is rooted deep into the society and so is still very much active. “I urge the people to please report any suspicious activities with regard to narcotics to their local police departments,” asserted the DIG.

A similar drive was carried out in Karimganj as well and drugs worth around Rs 70 crores were destroyed today in the presence of DIG(SR), DC, SP and other officials.
