Congress demonstrates in front of Udharbond Police station; Demands arrest of culprits behind burglary, robbery

Today morning at around 11:30, agitating Congress workers surrounded the Udhabond Police outpost and brought it to a standstill. The protesters alleged that there is a serious rise in the number of criminal activities like burglary, robbery in the Udharbond area and most part of the Cachar district.

The Police is playing the role of mute spectator alleged the Congress workers. They were led by former minister in Assam Government, Ajit Singh. The protest continued for more than 90 minutes. During this period, nobody was allowed to walk inside the Police station nor anyone got the chance to walk out for whatever the reason might be.

Recently 20 armed men allegedly entered the house of Anamul Haque Laskar in Udharbond’s Pangram area. Anamul Haque Laskar locally popular as ‘Anam – Panchayat’ was the GP President of Pangram GP for 10 years. After the seat got reserved and his sister became the president.

Apart from being a politician, Laskar is also a renowned PWD-Contractor. Late in the night at around 1:00 am, the dacoits entered his house by breaking the door. According to Laskar’s estimate, they looted around Rs 15 lakh cash and 25 vori gold.

The protesters said that the Police have failed to make any arrests so far. “The Police is making people fools. They do not catch the real culprit. That is why we are forced to launch a protest,” said former minister Ajit Singh.

He added, “We have temporarily withdrawn the protest because the OC of Udharbond Police station gave us an assurance that strict action will be taken and the culprits will be nabbed within ten days. Respecting the OC’s commitment we have decided to withdraw the protest temporarily.”

Singh made it clear that the party’s workers will launch a massive protest if the culprits are not nabbed. “Thousands will gather and if a law and order situation emerges then it will be the responsibility of the district administration,” warned Ajit Singh.
