Corona Scare: NF Railway hikes platform ticket price to avoid gathering in railway stations

Taking note of the increasing COVID-19 cases in India and to regulate the unnecessary crowding at the rail stations, NF Railway’s Lumding division has decided to increase the fare of platform tickets from current 10 rupees to 50 or 30 rupees.

“It has been decided to enhance the fare of the platform ticket with immediate effect till further order to take the step to avoid the crowd at the stations over Lumding division” an internal letter stated.

Revised platform fairs of NSG-2, 3 & 4 category stations, which includes Guwahati, Kamakhya, Lumding, Silchar and Dimapur station will be 50 rupees whereas fair of NSG-5 category stations like Agartala, Badarpur, Dharmanagar, Lanka etc will be 30 rupees.

The increase in the fair will only be a temporary measure and prices will be restored once the situation permits.

A platform ticket is a type of rail ticket issued by railway systems, permitting the bearer to access the platforms of a railway station, but not to board and use any train services.
