Cough Syrup worth Rs 2 crores seized in Karimganj; DGP lauds Karimganj Police, SP credits OC Badarpur

Assam Police continues its intensive drive against the transportation of illicit substances. In an operation, Karimganj Police seized 38,000 bottles of Codeine based cough syrup – Phensedyl from a Tripura-bound truck. The operation was carried out in Badarpur at around 7:30 pm.

As per available information, the truck travelling from Uttar Pradesh concealed the consignment of cough syrup under sacks of cement. The truck was plying with the challan to transport cement. Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Superintendent of Police, Padmanabh Baruah said, “The truck was headed towards Tripura when our officials stopped it noticing suspicious activities. After a thorough search, we found 38,000 bottles of Codeine based cough syrup under the piles of cement. The estimated value of this consignment is around Rs 2 Crores. We have confiscated the consignment and the matter is being investigated further,”

A few days back, the Karimganj Police had nabbed a huge consignment of Ganja worth Rs 2.5 crores. SP Baruah lauded the efforts of his men. “The credit for this goes to Badarpur Police Station Team and the OC, who did an excellent job on this. The entire force is working hard to successfully carry out CM’s “War on Drugs” campaign,” said SP Padmanabh Baruah.

Director-General of Police, Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta took on social media to appreciate the seizure. “…abracadabra in Assam Police style. Separates cement from Phensedyl,” he tweeted warning the miscreants about Assam Police’s magic wand that can separate the drug from the cement with magic spells.

His tweet added, “Karimganj Police today seized 38,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup from a Tripura bound truck. These bottles were hidden under piles of cement bags. Kudos to the team!”
