Cutout Washed with Milk as Udharbond Congress Shows Support for Gaurav Gogoi

Tensions rose in Barak Valley politics after Congress workers in Udharbond ceremonially washed a Cutout of MP Gaurav Gogoi with milk and announced plans to welcome him “royally”, days after state minister Kaushik Rai reportedly said Gogoi would not be allowed to enter the region.

The symbolic act was carried out by local Congress members to counter what they described as attempts to prevent the Congress leader’s visit to Barak. The development comes two days after Rai allegedly warned that Gogoi’s entry into the valley would be restricted following remarks linked to the Pakistan issue.

Speaking at the event, Udharbond Congress leader and ticket aspirant Pallab Singh Yadav challenged the minister’s statement and said the party was ready to receive Gogoi with full respect. He claimed Congress would not be intimidated by the minister’s warnings.

Yadav also criticised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and alleged that the ruling BJP was trying to create divisions among people. He accused the government of misleading the public and said Barak and Brahmaputra valleys should remain united. He further alleged that BJP workers had earlier burnt an effigy of Gogoi, and said the milk-washing ceremony was conducted to show honour and support for the Congress MP.

During his speech, Yadav used sharp language against the Chief Minister and warned that any attempt to obstruct Gogoi’s visit could lead to political retaliation. He also expressed confidence that the Congress would form the government in Assam after the 2026 Assembly elections under Gogoi’s leadership.
