Cyclone Alert: Multiple flights including Silchar – Kolkata, Shillong, canceled for Oct 25

Mausam Bibhag of the Government of India has issued a red alert for four Northeastern States – Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram after Sitrang cyclone started to wreak havoc in Bangladesh. At least 28,155 people and 2,736 cattle have been evacuated from Cox’s Bazar area according to a report by Dhaka Tribune.

Another ANI report suggests that as many as seven individuals have been killed by the cyclone and that includes three members of a family. The incidents occurred in Dhaka, Nagalkot in Cumilla Daulatkhan, and Charfesson in Bhola and Lohagara in Narail as the severe storm lashed Bangladesh with heavy rains and devastating wind, reported bdnews24.

Keeping the alerts in the backdrop, multiple passenger flights from Silchar’s Kumbhirgram Airport have been canceled. The Air India flight from Silchar to Kolkata was supposed to depart at 7:45 am has been delayed and now expected to take off at 1:25 pm.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet has canceled the flight to Kolkata that was supposed to depart at 9:10 am. Similarly, IndiGo has canceled the flight for Shillong scheduled at 9:55 am. IndiGo has already announced that the flight from Silchar to Kolkata scheduled at 12:20 pm has been canceled. However, the 1:45 pm Silchar to Kolkata flight is still on time and the flight to Guwahati is scheduled.
