Cyclonic storm wreaks havoc in Karimganj; Several houses collapsed one reported dead
After the cyclone in Chaitra month, hundreds of houses have collapsed in Patharkandi due to Kalbaisakhi’s rampage. Besides, the entire area has plunged into darkness since Friday morning as trees uprooted by the cyclone damaged electric poles. On Thursday night, a seven-year-old boy of a man named Amir Uddin died in Cheragaon of Madhurbond as clump of bamboo trees broke and fell on him. Three more children have been injured in the incident. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Patharkandi Hospital.
Locals said that on Thursday night and Friday morning, due to Kalboishakhi’s rampage, many houses got destroyed while the tin roof of many houses blew off due to the wind. In addition, there has been extensive damage to the crops as well.
Due to Kalboishakhi, there has been extensive damage to the houses of people living in Burunga, Dengarband, Hatikhira, Baghon, Kalkalighat, Chandkhira, Lowairpoa, Balipipla, Faridkona-Dohalia and Jhejri GP. About forty houses were reported to have collapsed in Sadhukuti village of Dengarband GP. Among them, the entire house of Prabhat Suklabaidya got destroyed. Locals are seeking the intervention of CO, DC and the MLA to get government assistance for the victims of Kalbaisakhi rampage. Previous cyclone victims have complained that they haven’t received compensation from the government yet.
