Dacoit Mayajul Haq Laskar killed by a mob in Barak Valley; Police investigating the matter

Bagpur resident Mayajul Haq Laskar got killed by a mob of around a thousand people in Sonabarighat area last evening. As per available information, he was allegedly caught red-handed by locals while he was stealing a motorcycle. In Sonai, Legislative assembly constituency, Mayajul Haq Laskar is renowned as a dacoit who used to often extort money from the local residents. In fact, he was in jail for a while and got recently released.

Former GP President, Altaf Hussein said that he was informed by the local about a tense situation in the area. “When I rushed to the spot, I saw about 1000 angry individuals gathered and a few were beating Mayajul Haq Laskar. We all know him and are aware of his criminal history. When I managed to cross the mob and reach him, I found out he was hardly breathing,” he said.

DSP, Cachar AJ Baruah and OC Silchar Sadar Police Station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post mortem and an immediate investigation into the matter was ordered. The Police officials were unavailable for comment.
