DC Laya Madduri flags off Poshan Maah; takes oath to abolish malnutrition

Poshan- Abhiyan is a multi-ministerial convergence mission with the vision to ensure attainment of malnutrition free India by 2022. The objective of Poshan Abhiyan is to reduce stunting in identified districts of India with the highest malnutrition burden by improving utilization of key Anganwadi Services and improving the quality of Anganwadi Services delivery. Its aim is to ensure holistic development and adequate nutrition for pregnant women, mothers and children.

Today, the District Social Welfare Department, Cachar organized a rally for the launching of the Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2019 across the district. The rally was flagged off by the Honorable District Commissioner, Cachar soon after the oath-taking ceremony (Oath for abolishing malnutrition and creating a healthy India).

Along with the District Deputy Commissioner District’s Assistant Commissioner also walked in the rally. A large number of people participated in the rally specially from General Administration Department, Social Welfare Department, Health Department, Education Department, Police and other departments. The rally began from the Office of the District Deputy Commissioner and moved forward to Premtala road and later towards the Shillong Patti road and ended at District Library ground. A street play was performed by the anganwadi workers to create awareness on nutrition and safe motherhood practices at the end of the rally. Sweets and nutritious foods were also distributed among all the rally participants.

Throughout the month, various activities will be carried out at anganwadi centers, schools, health facilities as well as in village and community level. Special health checkup camp (T3- Talk, Test & Treat) will be organized in tea garden areas to check the anemia of the child, women and adolescent girls. This camp will also focus on the theme ‘Defeat Diarrhoea” – will screen the diarrhoeal cases, ORS and Zinc tabs provision, create awareness and appropriate referral to the health centers.

Community-Based Events (Suposhan Divas, Early Childhood Care and Education, Community Health Days) will be performed twice in the month at every anganwadi centers. A “Poshan Rath”- will travel across the district for creating awareness on nutrition & health. Apart from these screening of malnourished children across the district, 100% growth monitoring of all the children below six years and in few anganwadi centers kitchen garden will be developed.
