DC S Lakshmanan inaugurates BSNL’s Durga Puja; an imaginary village, 18 foot tall idol unveiled 

On the occasion of Maha-Shasthi, deputy commissioner of Cachar, S Lakshmanan inaugurated the Durga Puja organised by BSNL employees. This Puja was first organised by the telecom employees in British India in 1944 and in 2018, the organisers are celebrating its 75th anniversary. The deputy commissioner declared the pandal open for public by cutting the ribbon and breaking a coconut. 
Since 2000, after BSNL was founded, this Puja in Sadarghat office famous as BSNL’s Puja. This time the employees have themed the puja around spreading awareness about nature. An imaginary village has been built using biodegradable materials. Students of the fine-arts department of Assam University Silchar helped the Puja committee in building the village. Inside the pandal an 18 foot tall idol of goddess Durga will welcome the visitors.

 

As a part of the 75th anniversary celebration the committee donated Rs 10,000 to the children living in Nibedita Orphan House. On the occasion of Maha Asthami, the Puja committee will arrange for rice and eight different types of curries (8 torkari bhaat) as prasad for devotees. The committee has limited budget and have focused on tradition and rituals.
