Dead bodies recovered from Cachar
The dead body of a 35-year-old man was recovered under mysterious circumstances from the river Barak (Rukni) at Punirmukh village in Cachar district on Friday.
Punirmukh falls under Sonai constituency, around 32km from Silchar.
According to sources, the dead body was spotted by local residents near a sluice-gate in the river at Punirmukh around 12:30pm this afternoon. The deceased, Rinku Roy, was the son of late Shatamoni Roy and a resident of Rukni, Part-II.
Receiving the information about the incident, a team of police officials including Palonghat police outpost in-charge Sanjib Bora and two constables – Jyotish Chanda and Binoy Singh reached the spot. The body was thereafter recovered and sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem, sources said.
Locals said Rinku had been missing for the past few days. An FIR was also lodged in this connection by Rinku’s elder brother Shambhu Roy with Palonghat police outpost on Saturday.
In another incident, the dead body of an unidentified youth was recovered from Water Works Road in Silchar town this morning. The youth, who was in a blue jeans and grey T-shirt, was found lying on the road by local residents.
The matter was eventually informed to the police, which reached the spot and sent the dead body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. The body will be kept at the mortuary of the hospital for 72 hours for identification.
Sources in police said the youth perhaps died of drug overdose. The picture will be clear after the post-mortem, sources said.
