Dead body of 40-year-old who went missing during immersion, recovered from Dolu river

A 40-year-old man has died due to drowning in the Dolu River, who went there on the occasion of idol immersion of Basanti Puja. Bijan Bagdi, the deceased was a resident of the Dolu Tea Garden area. On Monday evening he went out to celebrate the Dahasami of Basanti Puja, but never returned home even. His family members and relatives have searched him everywhere but failed to their utter dismay.

On April 12, a floating dead body was first spotted by some school students in the Dolu River. When they informed the adults, the news spread in the Dolu area. As the Bagdi family was searching for him, they also rushed to the spot upon hearing this news. Their family member did confirm that it was in fact the body of Bijan Bagdi.

Later Borkhola Police were informed and in the presence of Borkhola Thana’s SI Chandrmani Singh and Zakir Hussain, the body was recovered. The dead body was later sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. So far the common notion for the cause of his death is drowning.

A local present on the spot said, “Bijan was the sole breadwinner and the only male member of his family. There are three small kids and his wife. His wife works as a labourer in the tea garden. His death has shattered the family and even us”.
