Dead body of missing Silchar-boy floats in the river; Family demands investigation

A dead body has floated in the Barak River on Saturday morning. The body that has been spotted by the public and was immediately reported to the police. After recovery, the deceased was identified by the family members. He has been identified as a youth from the Kanarpur sub-urban area of Cachar District. 28-year-old Nasrat Moudud Laskar, a resident of Kanarpur Part II was missing for the past few days from his residence. The body that floated near Dudhpatil Part V of Cachar District was later sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.

The brother of Nasrat speaking to the media on Saturday said, “My brother had disappeared all of a sudden after offering his evening Namaz on Wednesday. The last we saw him was at 8:30 in the night, he left the home wearing a red jacket. As he didn’t return home that night and we couldn’t contact him as well, we were tensed and started searching for him everywhere. Helpless and clueless, we filed a missing diary with the Police, but to our utter misfortune, we received his dead body today after three days”.

On Saturday morning when the locals at Choudhury Para Ghat, Dudhpatil saw a floating dead body on the bank of Barak River. It created a panic situation and later the locals informed the Police. Upon reaching the spot the police with the help of locals recovered the body from the water and checked with all the nearby police stations for a missing report of any man.

When the news of this recovery spread, a relative of Nasrat rushed to the spot and identified the body as Nasrat. His family was then informed and after everyone reached the bank of Barak, the body was finally sent to SMCH for postmortem and further investigating the reason behind his death.

Speaking to the media, the police personnel present at the spot said, “This morning when we received the call about this unidentified floating body, we rushed with our men to the spot and recovered the body. Fortunately, we could trace the family of the dead and the body was identified. After taking this case into our hands, we handed over the body to Medical College for further postmortem and only then we can know the reason behind his death. From preliminary investigation, we can’t say anything about the cause, but there is a spot of severe blood loss on his face and there are red scars on his forehead as well. The investigation is on”.

It is worth mentioning here that Nusrat left his home on February 16 at around 8:30 in the night. While leaving he didn’t say where he was headed, nor did he take his phone. The family member of Nasrat has demanded the Police for a proper investigation on this matter so that the truth can come out.
