Decomposed Body of G.C. College Student Found in Barak River: Murder Suspected
A week after he went missing, the decomposed body of Purna Chandra Barman, a 1st-year Arts student at Silchar’s G.C. College, was recovered from the Barak River near Shibchar in Cachar’s Katigorah area. Initial suspicions point to murder, with allegations that his body was dumped in the river.
Purna Chandra, a resident of Barkhola Ujangram, lived with his sister in a rented house on Chengkuri Road, Silchar, while pursuing his studies. On New Year’s Eve, around 11 PM, he left his home and never returned. Worried by his disappearance, his family filed a missing person’s report at the local outpost. However, despite their efforts, the police were unable to locate him.
Yesterday (January 7), locals in Shibchar spotted a decomposed body floating by the Barak River and informed the police. Upon reaching the scene, Purnachandra’s family confirmed the body’s identity. The remains have been sent to Silchar Medical College for a post-mortem examination.
The case has taken a mysterious turn with allegations surfacing that Purnachandra had left behind a SIM card at home before going missing. This detail, coupled with the circumstances of his disappearance, has intensified suspicions of foul play.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with many believing it to be a premeditated murder.
