Demand for medical college at Ratabari: CPI takes out rally, stages protest at R.K. Nagar

The Communist Party of India (CPI), on Monday, staged a protest in front of Ramakrishnanagar circle office in Karimganj district seeking fulfillment of a number of demands.

The demands include establishment of the medical college (proposed medical college in Karimganj district) at Ratabari and establishment of an industrial training institute at Ramakrishnanagar among others.

The CPI members along with women in large numbers took out a rally and finally converged in front of the circle office, around 60km from Silchar, around 11:15am this morning and staged the protest. The members raised slogans in unison strongly demanding establishment of the medical college at Ratabari and an industrial training institute at Ramakrishnanagar. Thereafter, a memorandum was submitted to Ramakrishnanagar circle officer Saptati Endow.

The memorandum, submitted by CPI leader Srinibas Kar, said health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced during the last Assembly polls that the medical college will be set up in that constituency whose BJP candidate gets the maximum number of votes in that elections. Going by that, Ratabari MLA Kripanath Malla had got the maximum votes among all BJP candidates in Karimganj district, the memorandum said.

The members stated in the memorandum that the government should fulfill its promise and take steps to set up the medical college at Ratabari. Besides, they questioned why the work of the industrial training institute, which had started long ago, did not complete till date. The members stressed that the work process be fast-tracked and the classes be started soon.

Apart from that, the members demanded that the road work from East Harinagar to East Baruala under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana be started at the earliest and a bridge be constructed over the river Singla at Rupagram. The demonstration concluded around 1:30pm.
