Despite having clear footage, Rangirkhari Police failed to catch the mobile thief after five days

It has been five days that a thief stole a OnePlus 8T mobile phone, worth Rs. 45,999 in broad daylight from Rainbow Infotech, a shop located at Sonai Road in a way akin to many Bollywood movie plots raising a hullabaloo in the town. The middle aged man came to the shop masquerading as a customer, asked the person in-charge to show him a OnePlus 8T mobile and made a call from his own mobile in the meantime. A few moments later, a bike arrived at the shop and the man snatched the OnePlusT without a moment’s delay evading from the spot with the biker. While it’s rare to have such convoluted details of a burglary, it was the CCTV camera which acted as a concrete piece of evidence.

Though the man’s visage was vividly visible on the CCTV yet the police have been unable to nab the culprits involved which have raised serious security concerns for Silcharians as the town witnessed a massive increase in crimes post lockdown.

Speaking to Barak Bulletin the owner of Rainbow Infotech told “Police is still conducting an inquiry but no action has been taken by them till now. They took the CCTV footage in a pen drive from my shop. I feel there’s a high possibility of the burglars belonging to a local gang in Sonabarighat but I am unable to do anything as it’s not my job to catch thieves. The bike did not have any number plate and even the bulb lying above the number plate was broken which means it was all planned before. It also came to my knowledge that the thief went to another shop recently and inquired something at a furniture shop just two days ago wearing that same black mask.”

Commenting on the issue, Officer In-Charge Rangirkhari Police Station said “We have received an FIR and took the CCTV footage in a pen drive. We are investigating the matter now. “
