Dholai Congress Erupts in Protest: Abhijit Paul’s Effigy Burned Amid Allegations of Bias

Tensions are rising in Dholai as the upcoming by-election approaches, with Congress supporters expressing intense dissatisfaction with the district Congress President of Silchar, Abhijit Paul. Accusations of biased and unilateral decision-making have led to a heated protest, culminating in the burning of his effigy by outraged party members.

The protest took place in Rukni under the Palonghat Block on Tuesday night, where disgruntled Congress supporters gathered to voice their anger. They accused Abhijit Paul of favouring a single candidate in the Dholai by-election, despite there being three contenders. Protesters claim that Paul has been holding meetings and organising campaigns solely for one candidate, leaving other aspirants and block officials in the dark.

During the protest, demonstrators chanted slogans such as “Abhijit Paul Murda Bad” and “Stop Corruption in Dholai Congress,” indicating their frustration with what they perceive as unfair practices within the party. Both men and women participated in the demonstration, emphasising their refusal to tolerate any more corruption and injustice under Paul’s leadership.

A key protester detailed several accusations against Abhijit Paul, asserting that Paul has been conducting meetings in secrecy, excluding even the most senior members of the Congress block committee. The protester alleged that Paul’s actions are not only partial but also undermine the democratic process within the party. The dissatisfaction with Paul’s leadership was further exacerbated by his alleged manipulation in the selection of the Mondol Congress President, a move that the protesters claim disregarded popular support.

The protester continued to explain that Paul’s actions have left many within the party feeling alienated and powerless. The protester also questioned why crucial decisions are being made without the knowledge or consent of the broader party base, suggesting that Paul’s approach is harming the unity and integrity of the Congress party in the region.

This incident highlights the growing unrest within the Dholai Congress as internal conflicts become increasingly public. With the by-election just around the corner, the turmoil within the party could have significant implications for the outcome.

As tensions continue to simmer, it remains to be seen how the Congress leadership will respond to these allegations and whether any steps will be taken to address the concerns of the party’s grassroots members.
