District administration pilots drone to distribute drinking water in Silchar
Assam’s Silchar town has been witnessing the worst floods in its recent history. Owing to the catastrophe, Silchar remained underwater for the fifth consecutive day.
There have been various reports surfacing about people remaining stranded waiting for relief and water in many remote parts of the Silchar town. Taking cognizance of the matter, the Cachar district administration, with instructions from the Chief Minister of Assam, have started distributing water with the help of drones.
A team from Chennai on the direction of the Chief Minister has been appointed to distribute drinking water among the flood victims at various places where NDRF boats are not able to reach.
“There are many places in the city where NDRF boats can’t reach with supplies and the Air Force is also not able to drop relief material. For such places we have organised a drone from Chennai to distribute water and essentials across those areas. We are happy that the pilot landing has been successful today and we plan to launch the operations as soon as possible,” informed DC Keerthi Jalli.
The death toll due to floods in Assam climbed to 118 on Friday after 10 more people lost their lives in the past 24 hours. Still more than 45 lakh people are affected due to the calamity across 30 districts of the state.
