Dolu: The Steering Committee for Greenfield Airports Grants Site Clearance; “Barak Valley One Step Closer,” CM
The Steering Committee for Greenfield Airports, under the Central Ministry of Civil Aviation, has officially granted site clearance for the proposed Greenfield airport in Cachar’s Dolu area.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared this exciting news on February 13 via social media, expressing his delight. He further explained that, according to the Greenfield Airports Policy of 2008, there are two primary stages required for the approval of such proposals.
He clarified that these stages are the ‘Site-Clearance’ stage and the ‘In-Principle’ approval stage. Following this announcement, he expressed optimism that Barak Valley is now one step closer to experiencing improved transportation and connectivity.
It’s important to note that the proposed Greenfield Airport in Dolu Area has earlier sparked controversy among locals. While some support the development, others have protested against it.
The Assam Government’s decision to deploy 150 JCB and Excavators to clear the tea plantations from the area back in 2022 was met with discontent by the locals, leading to widespread protests in the surrounding area.
Following CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s announcement on Facebook, people responded positively. The General Secretary of BJP Borkhola Mandal praised this news, labelling it as a positive development for the entire Barak Valley.
