Dr. Ranoj Pegu Reviews Barak Valley School Infrastructure, Announces GC University Formalization Soon

The Education Minister of Assam Dr Ranoj Pegu is in Barak Valley to attend an event of the All Assam Primary Teachers’ Conference in Hailakandi on Thursday. In a review meeting held on Wednesday, July 24, at the conference hall of the Cachar District Commissioner’s Office, he assessed various issues related to school education, including infrastructure and mid-day meals, in the districts of Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi. This meeting titled “Review meeting on school education” for Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi was attended by the Cachar District Commissioner of Cachar and other education department officials under the Chairmanship of Dr Ranoj Pegu.

Dr. Pegu reiterated the government’s commitment to complete the transformation of Gurucharan College, Silchar, into a university. This upgrade was formalized through a notification issued on December 1, 2023. “After the notification was issued last December, we couldn’t complete the recruitment process for Gurucharan University due to the MCC (Model Code of Conduct) being in effect for the Lok Sabha elections. The process is ongoing and will be completed soon. The Vice-Chancellor and other faculty members will also be appointed,” stated Dr. Pegu.

Addressing the complexities surrounding the Siksha Setu App, the Minister highlighted that the government is collaborating with experts from IIIT Guwahati and Cotton University to resolve these issues. Additionally, he expressed optimism about the forthcoming announcement of the CUET exam results.

Dr. Pegu also tackled the topic of seat shortages in various colleges. He clarified that while there is no overall shortage of seats, certain colleges experience high demand, leading to congestion. “If everyone wants to get a seat at GC College or Cachar College, there will obviously be shortages, but seats are vacant at institutes like Eraligool College in Karimganj,” he noted.

Regarding the 42 vacant positions for Bengali subject teachers in various schools across Cachar, Dr. Pegu assured that the recruitment process for these posts would commence shortly.
